Astrid Rondero is an award-winning director, screenwriter and producer. She is a member of the National Art Creators System (SNCA) in Mexico, and has received grants and funding from various organizations, including Sundance, Tribeca, Women in Film, Berlinale Talents, IMCINE, and FONCA, among others.
Her short film Stillwater (2011) was nominated for the Ariel Award in the short fiction category by the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMACC). Her debut narrative feature The Darkest Days of Us (2018) competed in the official selection of the Maguey Award and received numerous accolades around the world, including nominations to the Ariel Award for Best Debut Feature and Best Actress.
She produced and co-wrote Identifying Features (Fernanda Valadez, 2020), which premiered in the international competition at Sundance, where it earned the Best Screenplay award. The film also earned the Gotham Award for Best International Feature and nine Ariel Awards, including Best Picture.
She is currently preparing her second feature film as a director, Sujo, along with her creative partner, Fernanda Valadez.
